Summer 2019 Fashion Trends

Summer is right around the corner, time to get ready for those long beach days and summer nights. Summer clothing is my personal favorite because it’s fun and effortless. Accessories are key when it comes to spicing up any outfit and summer is the right time to wear a little extra when it comes to jewelry, hats, and sunglasses of course. I have shared 4 fashion trends for this summer and how to incorporate them in your wardrobe.

Hair Accessories: Headbands,Scrunchies, and Clips

Hair accessories have been a huge trend this spring and summer. Everything from headbands, hair scrunchies, and hair clips. Celebrities such as Kate Middleton, Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner have all been spotted rocking hair accessories. Headbands were featured in the runways of Tom Ford and Christian Dior as shown below.

Hair accessories are very easy to wear and can be easily incorporated in many of your outfits. Hair scrunchies and bows are the easiest and most practical hair trend, because let’s face it who wants their hair down on those hot and humid days. Headbands also add a touch of femininity to your look and gets your hair out of your face. I personally love this trend because it’s stylish yet has a practical use.

Here are some great options for hair clips, headbands, and scrunchies. Pearls and tortoise are also very popular this summer and are often seen on headbands and hair clips.

Whenever I think of headbands I automatically think of the Gossip Girl character Blair Waldorf played by Leighton Meester. She has been my style inspiration when it comes to hair accessories. In the photo below I am wearing the pearl headband from Amazon that is featured above. I love this headband because it’s very classy and elegant and the pearls are petite and delicate. I also love this headband because it does not give you a headache like other headbands often do!

In this other outfit below I am wearing the white knotted eyelet headband from Urban Outfitters that I have shown in the pictures above. This headband is super girly and so fun for the summer, you can easily pair it with a romper or a sun dress. I have paired it with a white eyelet romper and a blue cardigan for the evening.

I was inspired once again by Leighton Meester in Gossip Girl and two outfits she wore in the Hamptons.

Bows have been extremely popular for this summer and have been shown on the runways of Valentino, Celine, Miu Miu, and many more. Bows can be added to dresses, tops, and accessories too. This trend is for those days where you’re feeling extra girly!

In the picture to the left I am wearing a one shoulder navy blue top with a bow on the sleeve. This top is from J.Crew and I paired it with my white skinny jeans, white Superga sneakers, and the hair bow from Urban Outfitters. This is a great outfit for any summer outing. I wore this out in NYC and it was very fashionable yet comfortable.

Here some other ways to wear bows in a casual summer outfit. This denim dress below is from Nordstrom and has an over-sized bow on the hip. Pair this dress with sandals or sneakers and you’re set! Such a cute outfit for any barbecue or to take with you on vacation.

If you’re looking to use this trend in your work wardrobe, then bow belted culottes are perfect for you! Check out this white pair from Nordstrom. Perfect to wear to work and stylish enough to go to happy hour right after. Add a simple pump or mules and you will have your entire office buzzing!

Have a wedding or a cocktail party this summer and need the perfect LBD (little black dress) look no further! Every woman should own a little black dress that can be their go-to when an event pops up last minute. This black Topshop dress with a bow on the chest from Nordstrom is the perfect dress for any wedding or cocktail party. I wore this dress to the Renaissance Ball at Columbus Citizens Foundation in NYC and received many compliments on it. It’s very classy and feminine and it’s very versatile. You can never go wrong with a simple LBD!

Adding a bow in your accessories is also another way to incorporate this summer trend in your everyday wardrobe. Check out how stylish these shoes below are! On your left are the Rockstud Valentino flip flops which are the perfect flip flops for summer. The nude ones that I have shown below are very easy to match and add a little glamour to your basic flip flops. In the middle we have the pointed-toe bow mules from J.Crew. They are so stylish and fun and look great with work clothes and also with denim for your weekend plans! If you’re looking for a fancier shoe then these Ted Baker heels will do. You can find them at and they can spice up any black dress for fancier events that you may have this summer.

Natural Handbags

This summer is all about fun natural handbags made from wicker, bamboo, and wood. Oscar de la Renta and Altuzarra have featured natural handbags in their runway shows. We have seen these bags in the form of totes, cross bodies, and clutches. The tote is perfect to wear to the beach to carry your towel and sunscreen, meanwhile a clutch and cross body are ideal for a night out. I personally love a cross body to travel, because it’s very practical and leaves my hands free.

I found a lot of chic and trendy summer bags from Anthropologie and Zara. They have a ton of fabulous options and I would check them out if you’re in the market for the perfect summer handbag. Check out my favorite ones below!

In the photos below I am wearing a white bag with a wood handle from Zara. The bag is actually made of plastic but it gives the illusion that it is made out of wicker. The bag also has a tan cross body strap, which is very useful if you don’t want to carry it. What really attracted me to this bag is that it’s versatile and also very secure. The bag has a latch that lets you close it completely. This was very important to me, because I was looking for a fabulous handbag that would protect my valuables when I’m traveling. I also loved the fact that I could wear it as a cross body for walking around the city but can carry it if I wanted to dress it up and wear to dinner. I paired the bag with a white eyelet romper and white Jack Rogers sandals for a girly and casual look.

One Shoulder

One shoulder is the new cold shoulder. We have been seeing a lot of one shoulder tops and dresses on the runway for this season. Check out how Givenchy and Alexander McQueen have incorporate this trend in their collections.

One shoulder tops and dresses are super fun and mix up your wardrobe a little. In the pictures below I am wearing a hot pink one shoulder ruffle top that I bought while I was in Italy last year with my white skinny jeans. I love wearing brighter colors in the summer that I would not necessarily wear in the winter and that’s what really attracted me to this top.

In this other look I am wearing a one shoulder ruffle eyelet romper from Lord and Taylor. I love wearing rompers in the summer as they are easy, comfortable, and stylish. I have paired this flirty piece with the eyelet knot headband from Urban Outfitters that I have mentioned before. I am carrying the Zara bag that I have shown above and paired it with timeless white and raffia Jack Rogers sandals.

Here are some other one shoulder looks from Anthropologie and Nordstrom. The polka dot top can be worn with skinny jeans and sandals for a night out or happy hour. The short stripe sun dress from Nordstrom is a super comfortable dress to wear on vacation or on a boat. The white maxi dress from Anthropologie has a Greek/Roman goddess feel and would look great if you’re traveling to Greece or Rome this summer.
