There’s no better way to celebrate Columbus Day than being part of the New York City Columbus Day Parade! On Monday, October 8, 2018, 35,000 marchers and more than 100 groups including bands and floats lined up on the east side in NYC ready to celebrate their Italian culture.
Music was playing as marchers waved their Italian flags into the crowd. Photographers and journalists were scattered along 5th Avenue capturing the largest celebration of Italian culture in America.
This was my second year participating in the parade with The Westchester Italian Cultural Center.
It is an unforgettable experience marching through the cheering crowd to celebrate our Italian roots. The most exciting part being on a float is passing the Grand Stand with anchors and TV cameras from various TV stations such as ABC and RAI. My cheeks were sore from smiling and waving for almost 2 hours.
After the parade was over, the team and I headed to Columbus Citizens Foundation on 69th street, as it was time for Mangiare! We enjoyed delicious pasta in company with many other parade attendees and government officials supporting Italian heritage.
